How a drone roof survey works in Acton Green
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We survey chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are wind damage high on the roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy, in Acton Green as anywhere. Let us know about the building and access when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Common roof problems in Acton Green
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
Look out for signs like these:
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
Hogarth's House, about 0.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Acton Green. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Are they insured for the work?
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
FAQs for Acton Green
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Acton Green?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Acton Green is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Acton Green?
Normally it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’ll then get the report by email.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
How the survey changes by roof type
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
Airspace, weather and Acton Green roofs
Acton Green is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ark Priory Primary Academy, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. If you run a business near Livat Hammersmith, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

The survey, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a London area like Acton Green, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can be seen safely from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Tell us about parking before the day
Booking a survey
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you are ready.

Tips from our surveys
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
