Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hempton
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We survey large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are hidden gutters full of leaves and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.
Villages like Hempton frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Cottages and farmhouses around Hempton often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Drone roof surveys in Hempton: local notes
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Within a mile and a half or so of Hempton there are several hotels. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Broughton Castle lies about 4.3 miles north-west, so building around Hempton goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. For an older house near a landmark such as Saint John the Evangelist, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. For hotels and guest houses around Hempton, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition.
Hempton is about 6 miles south of Banbury, in Oxfordshire. From houses to flats and shops in Hempton, we can survey the roof. Our Oxfordshire coverage includes Hempton. Our Oxford page covers surveys nearby.

Hempton questions
Is my home in Hempton listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is Hempton within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Can you fly a drone near an airport?
Sometimes, with permission. Airports such as Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. If permission isn’t given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before you book, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How long will you be at the property?
It typically takes about one to two hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
What this survey cannot tell you
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Let us know the exact address as you book
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
