Henley-on-Thames Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys in Henley-on-Thames from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us.
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
Tips that help
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
How a drone roof survey works in Henley-on-Thames
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are lifted or split lead flashings and loose ridge and hip tiles.
In smaller places like Henley-on-Thames, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from ground level.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Henley-on-Thames
About 2.3 miles west lies Greys Court, a reminder of how long the area around Henley-on-Thames has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Take a building like Trinity Church of England Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Holy Trinity Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What we are asked to look at in Henley-on-Thames
Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
For hotels and guest houses around Henley-on-Thames, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest.
What to check before booking
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- What exactly goes into their report
- What the survey won’t cover
- What insurance they carry
What you can safely check yourself
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT.

Henley-on-Thames: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Henley-on-Thames?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Henley-on-Thames listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We inspect what can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Henley-on-Thames?
Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
How long does the survey take?
Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You will then get the report by email.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the survey around it.
What we look for on each type of roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Parking around Henley-on-Thames is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
