Drone roof surveys in Hill Brow

Different roofs, different checks

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.

About our drone roof survey in Hill Brow

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. If you are worried about chimney tops in poor condition and ridge and hip pieces working loose, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Villages like Hill Brow often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

How the survey works

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a small place like Hill Brow, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Advice

Common roof problems in Hill Brow

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Flashings that have come away

If you look after a building such as Liss Junior School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Are they insured for the work?

What to expect from a roof survey

Flying and imaging in Hill Brow

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Rake Mission Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Common questions in Hill Brow

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hill Brow?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hill Brow?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Height and safe access
  • Which survey package you book
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Booking your survey

A little information up front helps. It helps to include:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

What this survey can’t tell you

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks

Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
