Drone roof survey in Horley, Oxfordshire
An experienced roof surveyor for drone roof surveys in Horley. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us.
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Flashings that have come away
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
How a drone roof survey works in Horley
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.
In a village or hamlet like Horley, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Horley: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Horley?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Horley?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
How much is a survey?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
How long does the survey take?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Drones, thermal imaging and Horley roofs
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Ethelreda, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building such as North Oxfordshire Academy, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What happens on the day
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like Horley can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Chimney stacks
Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
Why act early in Horley
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. For older village homes like those around Horley, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What we’re asked to look at in Horley
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Flashings that have come away
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
For businesses in and around places like Castle Quay Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- How soon the report will arrive
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
