Drone Roof Survey in Ruscote
Drone roof surveys in Ruscote, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. You get a clear report with photographs.
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
How a drone roof survey works in Ruscote
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’re worried about slates or tiles shifted by high winds and blocked valleys and parapet gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Around Ruscote, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
Common questions in Ruscote
Is Ruscote within the area you cover?
Yes, Ruscote is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Ruscote?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. In strong wind or a downpour, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Checking the roof from ground level
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Move stored items away from the hatch
File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
What happens on the day
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. A visit to a smaller place like Ruscote is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
How to prepare
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Keep pets in another room

What happens if roof problems are left?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is. With lower homes, common in places like Ruscote, there is little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.

- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

Flying and imaging in Ruscote
Ruscote has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, frequently have flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
For businesses in and around places such as Castle Quay Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Anyone responsible for a site like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near St Paul's Church Centre, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
