Independent drone roof surveys in Hound

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hound

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you’re worried about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and blocked valleys and parapet gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.

In a village or hamlet like Hound, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Hound often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

Common questions in Hound

Is Hound within the area you cover?

Yes. Hound is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hound?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is a separate check, and it’s part of the Premium Survey.

How long will you be at the property?

The visit typically takes an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Hound

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves

Medieval Merchant's House, about 3.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hound. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What to expect from a roof survey

What happens if roof problems are left?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. For older village homes like those around Hound, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Practical tips

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hound

Hound lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Shop and office owners around Westquay may find that big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
