Drone roof survey in Hurtmore: what you get

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about wind damage high on the roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.

Some older homes in villages like Hurtmore are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Common roof problems in Hurtmore

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicholas, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Will the report include photos?

What a good roof survey covers

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere like Hurtmore needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Flying and imaging in Hurtmore

On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Hurtmore

How do I find out if my home in Hurtmore is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is Hurtmore within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.

What’s in the survey report?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Hurtmore

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

How we price drone roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Roof area

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What to let us know when you contact us

There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • When you need the report by
