How a drone roof survey works in Ladywell
Drones need reasonable weather. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about standing water on a flat roof and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Ladywell as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

FAQs for Ladywell
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ladywell?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Ladywell listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Is Ladywell in your area?
Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Ladywell, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How the survey works
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Advice
Drone roof surveys in Ladywell: local notes
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.
The streets around a church like Church of St Mary the Virgin are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses such as Queen's House, about 2 miles north, show how far back building around Ladywell goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For a London address like Ladywell, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day.

Why get it checked now?
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In Ladywell, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A structural engineer’s report
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Checking the roof from ground level
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Let us know what you want to see
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
