Drone Roof Survey in Hither Green
Drone roof surveys in Hither Green and the rest of Greater London. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
Useful tips for Hither Green property owners
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Move stored items away from the hatch
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hither Green
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the roof space too, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you are worried about chimney tops in poor condition and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and fragile roofs alike.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Questions from Hither Green
Is my home in Hither Green listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Are there drone restrictions around Hither Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Hither Green?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It depends on the weather and the survey. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone cannot fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
What insurance do you have?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
What we can’t see
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Tall and steep roofs
Roof by roof
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- House, block, shop or office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Which survey package you book
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Helping us price your survey
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to tell us:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
The survey, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
How to prepare
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Booking a survey
When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Hither Green
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. About 2 miles north lies Queen's House, a reminder of how long the area around Hither Green has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Hither Green means lost rooms as well as repairs. Anyone responsible for a site like Brindishe Manor School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near Church of St Swithun, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
