Independent drone roof surveys in Linwood

Landlords, agents and block managers in Linwood

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters.

How a drone roof survey works in Linwood

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed slates or tiles shifted by high winds and flashings that have come away, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks alike.

Villages like Linwood often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Useful tips for Linwood property owners

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Book early if you’re near an airport

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs

What we do, step by step

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere like Linwood needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice

Drone roof surveys around Linwood

Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Linwood?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You cannot see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years, which is why owners turn to a drone.

Here are some of the things we see frequently:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

For properties in and around Linwood, we look at whatever is safely visible and explain what we find.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • What exactly goes into their report

What a roof survey includes

Linwood: your questions answered

Is drone flying allowed in Linwood?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you cover smaller places like Linwood?

Yes, Linwood is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

How do I book a survey in Linwood?

To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what you want to find out. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What if it rains on the day?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.

What do I do with the report?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
