Airspace, weather and Lodge Lees roofs
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Acrise Place lies about 3.4 miles south, so building around Lodge Lees goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.

Drone roof survey in Lodge Lees
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are ridge and hip pieces working loose and worn lead at chimneys and walls.
Villages like Lodge Lees often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
How it works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs. As for time on site, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Rural addresses near Lodge Lees can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

FAQs for Lodge Lees
Is drone flying allowed in Lodge Lees?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is my home in Lodge Lees listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
What’s in the report?
A report with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Lodge Lees?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Typically, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Why get it checked now?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Outbuildings and barns around Lodge Lees are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for the job before you book.

What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- The shape of the roof and its details
- House, block, shop or office
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Helping us price your survey
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
- Let us know what you want to see
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.
What we’re asked to look at in Lodge Lees
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Flashings that have come away
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary Magdalene, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
