Drone roof survey in Moorhouse Bank: what you get
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about moss and weeds taking hold up top and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What happens on the day
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us as you book.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
Book a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you are ready.
Advice
Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
Drone roof surveys in Moorhouse Bank: local notes
Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
Quebec House lies about 1.3 miles east, so building around Moorhouse Bank goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look by drone or thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Oxted School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely.
What we’re asked to look at in Moorhouse Bank
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
Parking in Moorhouse Bank, as in most of London, takes a little planning: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway as you book, as a space near the door can’t be promised.
What to check before booking
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- What exactly goes into their report
- What they will not be able to tell you
Moorhouse Bank questions
Is parking a problem for a survey in Moorhouse Bank?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Moorhouse Bank?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Our drone survey is about close-up photographs. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Moorhouse Bank?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not possible, we inspect by other means.
How we price drone roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- House, block, shop or office
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Which survey package you book
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email. The price is agreed before a date is set.
