Independent drone roof surveys in Poulner

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Poulner

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are slates or tiles shifted by high winds and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

Places like Poulner can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Drones, thermal imaging and Poulner roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

With Avon Tyrrell House about 3.8 miles south, the area around Poulner has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Anyone responsible for a site like Poulner Infant School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Poulner is about 1 mile north-east of Ringwood, in Hampshire. Poulner is one of many places we visit across Hampshire, for homes and businesses alike. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Practical tips

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

How it works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Poulner is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Booking a survey

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them.

Poulner: your questions answered

Is Poulner within the area you cover?

Yes. Poulner is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Poulner is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll get the report by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

How long will you be at the property?

It typically takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Time for the pre-flight checks is included.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

We point the camera at your roof only. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. In a smaller place like Poulner, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing does not stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Why us?

What you can safely check yourself

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
