Your questions about drone roof surveys in Ramsey

Are there drone restrictions around Ramsey?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Will you come out to Ramsey?

Yes, Ramsey is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Ramsey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.

Drone roof survey in Ramsey

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. We survey fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about ridge pieces that have lifted and hidden gutters full of leaves.

Some older homes in villages like Ramsey are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Ramsey

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

Anyone responsible for a site like Harwich and Dovercourt High School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA

What a roof survey includes

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It is useful to include:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. For a village or hamlet like Ramsey, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

How to book

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

Advice

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

Drone roof surveys in Ramsey: local notes

Ramsey is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. In Essex, older buildings are often clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St Michael are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Ramsey is about 2 miles west of Harwich, in Essex. Ramsey is one of many places we visit across Essex, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Our area takes in places right across Essex, from the larger towns to small villages. Chelmsford is in our area too.

Drone roof surveys in CO12 are booked the same way as anywhere else. You’ll find streets like The Street, Main Road and Windmill View. We also cover Little Oakley (1 mile south), Parkeston (2 miles north-east) and Harwich (2 miles east). Larger places within reach include Colchester (14 miles west), Clacton-on-Sea (9 miles south), Camulodunum (15 miles west), Greenstead (12 miles west), Wivenhoe (12 miles south-west) and Brightlingsea (11 miles south-west).

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
