Drone roof survey in Sandleheath

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We are often asked to look into moss building up on slopes and in gutters and loose ridge and hip tiles, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

In a village or hamlet like Sandleheath, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Tell us the exact address when you book
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Sandleheath

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a place like Sandleheath, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Airspace, weather and Sandleheath roofs

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Historic houses like Breamore House, about 3.1 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Sandleheath goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

Take an older house close to Sandleheath Uniting Church: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like The Burgate School and Sixth Form will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

Sandleheath questions

Is Sandleheath within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Are there drone restrictions around Sandleheath?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

For landlords and managing agents

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Sandleheath, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Find any records of previous roof work
