Drone roof survey in Ashford: what you get

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.

Somewhere as small as Ashford, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

How the survey works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a village or hamlet like Ashford, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

FAQs for Ashford

Is drone flying allowed in Ashford?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How do I find out if my home in Ashford is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report.

Do you work in Ashford?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Ashford.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.

How fast do I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Outbuildings and barns around Ashford are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Drone roof surveys in Ashford: local notes

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

With Breamore House about 3 miles north, the area around Ashford has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Fordingbridge Junior School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Useful tips for Ashford property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Ashford

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.

How the survey changes by roof type

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates frequently point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.
