Drone roof survey in Seal: what you get

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Common reasons to book are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and worn lead at chimneys and walls, across large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

Somewhere as small as Seal, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The roof’s overall size
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Getting in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What kind of property and roof it is

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You will know the price before anything is booked.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Seal often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs

What happens if roof problems are left?

From the ground, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a place like Seal, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.

Drone roof surveys around Seal

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

With Knole House about 1.8 miles south, the area around Seal has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. Take a building like Seal Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter and St Paul: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Seal is about 2 miles north-east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. In Seal, as across Kent, every roof gets the same careful survey. We cover towns and villages across Kent, large and small. You can also see our page for Maidstone.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Questions from Seal

Is Seal within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Seal?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
