Selborne Drone Roof Survey
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you decide what to do next. Drone roof surveys in Selborne.
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
How a drone roof survey works in Selborne
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Before the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so. If you’re worried about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs alike.
Somewhere as small as Selborne, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Airspace, weather and Selborne roofs
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Selborne?
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
Take a building like Selborne Church of England Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Why it is worth a survey now in Selborne
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Selborne, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
- A flight where airspace permission is refused

Questions from Selborne
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Selborne?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you cover smaller places like Selborne?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.
Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Let us know the exact address when booking
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Move stored items away from the hatch
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Selborne, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
