Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Shenfield

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, we can find out what’s behind it.

Around Shenfield, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Leave it or get it looked at?

From ground level, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a smaller place like Shenfield, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

Shenfield: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Shenfield?

Yes, Shenfield is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Shenfield?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when you book.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Shenfield?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

Expect it to take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Near airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check your address and ask for permission where it’s required. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies.

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a smaller place like Shenfield, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.

Drones, thermal imaging and Shenfield roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Historic houses like Ingatestone Hall, about 3.8 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Shenfield goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary the Virgin, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like Shenfield St. Mary's Church of England Primary School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

For landlords and managing agents

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Checking the roof from ground level

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
