Drone roof surveys for Hutton homes and businesses

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hutton

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. Common reasons to book are slipped or missing slates on a high roof and standing water on a flat roof, across chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.

In smaller places like Hutton, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Honest limits

It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

FAQs for Hutton

Is my home in Hutton listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Will you come out to Hutton?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

No, the drone survey is photographic. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey.

What happens next?

You will get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Will I get photos?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Every price we give includes VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Booking your survey

There is no need for technical words. Just let us know:

  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How it works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. A visit to a smaller place like Hutton is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Book a survey

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Tips that help

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:

  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Make sure the loft can be reached

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hutton

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. About 2.6 miles north-east lies Ingatestone Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Hutton has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

Take an older house close to St Peter's: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a building such as Willowbrook Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
