Need a drone roof survey in Shere?

What we’re asked to look at in Shere

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. The drone covers the surface area by area. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

With Hatchlands Park about 2.6 miles north, the area around Shere has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Will the report include photos?
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What happens after the report arrives

What to expect from a roof survey

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Shere

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. If you’ve noticed standing water on a flat roof and cracked mortar along the ridge, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Some older homes in villages like Shere are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

What we do, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a small place like Shere, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Find any records of previous roof work

Booking a survey

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or email us and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

Advice

Drone roof surveys around Shere

In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Take an older house close to The Church of St James: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Shere CofE Aided Infant School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions from Shere

Will you come out to Shere?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Shere?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.

How much is a survey?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.

Does your drone take thermal images?

The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. If you need thermal imaging, it is part of the Premium Survey.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

We point the camera at your roof only. Neighbouring homes and gardens are not the subject. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

What’s in the survey report?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Shere

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

What you can safely check yourself

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How big the roof is
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.

What to let us know when you get in touch

A little information up front helps. It helps to include:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
