Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in South Mundham

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are storm damage on steep or tall roofs and lead work pulling away at abutments.

Villages like South Mundham often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

South Mundham questions

Are there drone restrictions around South Mundham?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in South Mundham?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

How soon will I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.

How long will you be at the property?

Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take between one and two hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. The written report follows by email.

Drones, thermal imaging and South Mundham roofs

South Mundham is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of St Stephen, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

South Mundham is about 3 miles south of Chichester, in West Sussex. Bookings from South Mundham are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. South Mundham is one of the towns and villages in West Sussex we cover. For surveys nearby, see our Portsmouth page.

We cover every part of PO20 for drone roof surveys. Whether your property is on Manor Lane and Honer Lane or anywhere close by, we can help. If you are just outside South Mundham, we cover Fisher (1 mile west), Street End (2 miles south-west), Sidlesham Common (2 miles west), Nyetimber (2 miles south-east) and Sidlesham (2 miles south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Bognor Regis (3 miles east), Chichester (3 miles north), Selsey (5 miles south), Littlehampton (10 miles east), Emsworth (9 miles north-west) and Rustington (11 miles east).

How the survey works

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older rural homes like those around South Mundham can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Advice

Why act early in South Mundham

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like South Mundham, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

Why us?

  • 98% customer satisfaction
  • PI and public liability insurance

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

What this survey cannot tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Common roof problems in South Mundham

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

If you look after a building like North Mundham Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

What to check before booking

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

What a roof survey includes

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
