How a drone roof survey works in Sutton Scotney

We carry out drone roof surveys in Sutton Scotney and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Common reasons to book are ridge and hip pieces working loose and lifted or split lead flashings, across tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks.

In a village or hamlet like Sutton Scotney, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

When you need someone else

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

What we do, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a small place like Sutton Scotney, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Questions from Sutton Scotney

Do you cover smaller places like Sutton Scotney?

Yes, Sutton Scotney is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Are there drone restrictions around Sutton Scotney?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How do I book a survey in Sutton Scotney?

Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. A drone avoids that.

Drone roof surveys around Sutton Scotney

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

When to book a survey in Sutton Scotney

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings

Take an older house close to Ebenezer Methodist Chapel: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
