About our drone roof survey in Egypt

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Typical surveys look at eroded pointing on a chimney stack and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.

Villages like Egypt frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

Drones, thermal imaging and Egypt roofs

An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

The streets around a church such as Ebenezer Methodist Chapel are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Common roof problems in Egypt

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

In and around Egypt, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • When you will get the report
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Their insurance cover

Practical tips

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What happens on the day

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Egypt can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Common questions in Egypt

Will you come out to Egypt?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Egypt?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Egypt?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package.

How do I book a survey in Egypt?

It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

On site, it normally takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

When you need someone else

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
