Thrupp Drone Roof Survey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Thrupp, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
Why it is worth a survey now in Thrupp
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. For older village homes like those around Thrupp, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

About our drone roof survey in Thrupp
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photographs. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and people most frequently book us about tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and debris building up in hidden gutters.
In a small place like Thrupp, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What else we do in Thrupp
What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
- A structural engineer’s report
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
What happens on the day
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Around Thrupp, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Let us know where we can park nearby

Common roof problems in Thrupp
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
Problems we come across often include:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
If you look after a building such as The Marlborough Church of England School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Their report turnaround times
- Are they insured for the work?
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Drones, thermal imaging and Thrupp roofs
Thrupp is about 1 mile from Oxford Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Historic houses such as Blenheim Palace, about 2.5 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Thrupp goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If you live in an older home near Church of Holy Cross, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Thrupp: your questions answered
Is Thrupp within the area you cover?
Yes, Thrupp is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is drone flying allowed in Thrupp?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Thrupp is about 1 mile from Oxford Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We check everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
