Begbroke Drone Roof Survey
A careful look at the roof at your property in Begbroke, and put it all in a written report with photographs.
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Standing water on a flat roof
Drone roof survey in Begbroke: what you get
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.
In a small place like Begbroke, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers

Begbroke: your questions answered
Will you come out to Begbroke?
Yes, Begbroke is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Are there drone restrictions around Begbroke?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Begbroke is about 1 mile from Oxford Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
How soon will I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
What’s in the survey report?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
What happens on the day
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, it typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Begbroke, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Check the loft hatch can be reached

What else we do in Begbroke
For landlords and managing agents
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters.
What you can safely check yourself
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
When to book a survey in Begbroke
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
Take a building like William Fletcher Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before booking anyone
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
What a drone roof survey looks like in Begbroke
Oxford Airport is about 1 mile away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
With Blenheim Palace about 2.2 miles north-west, the area around Begbroke has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you live in an older home near Church of St Philip, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
