Drone roof survey in Tillington

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you are worried about worn lead at chimneys and walls and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, we can find out what’s behind it, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks alike.

Older buildings in small places like Tillington may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Tips from our surveys

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photographs and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a small place like Tillington, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Drones, thermal imaging and Tillington roofs

With Petworth House about 0.8 miles east, Tillington sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of All Hallows, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Petworth Cof E Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Tillington is about 12 miles north-east of Chichester, in West Sussex. We visit Tillington as part of our work across West Sussex. Tillington is one of the places in West Sussex where we work. You can also see our page for Guildford.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.

What a survey costs

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • The roof’s overall size
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It’s useful to include:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Anything about access we should know

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or email us and give us some details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

The survey, step by step

We will ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Tillington, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Questions from Tillington

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tillington?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Are there drone restrictions around Tillington?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What insurance do you have?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it’s safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
