Independent drone roof surveys in Tower Hill

Drone roof survey in Tower Hill

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’ve noticed flashings that have come away and debris building up in hidden gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters alike.

Villages like Tower Hill often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Common roof problems in Tower Hill

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places frequently go unseen until they leak, which is why owners turn to a drone.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

What to check before booking

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price

What a roof survey includes

Useful tips for Tower Hill property owners

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

How the survey works

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around Tower Hill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.

Advice

Questions from Tower Hill

Is Tower Hill within the area you cover?

Yes. Tower Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Tower Hill is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

What does the report include?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation often show first from inside, so we inspect the loft space as well where access is safe.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

How long does the visit take?

Allow roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We will give you an idea of timing when booking.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Airspace, weather and Tower Hill roofs

Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like St John's Catholic Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we check:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Roof area
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

Getting in touch

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • What made you get in touch

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.
