About our drone roof survey in Ugley
Drone roof surveys are available in Ugley and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are loose ridge and hip tiles and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below.
In a village or hamlet like Ugley, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

For landlords and managing agents
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant.
Drone roof surveys around Ugley
Ugley is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Stansted Airport. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
Ugley is about 5 miles north of Bishop's Stortford, in Essex. Roofs in Ugley get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Essex. Ugley is one of the places in Essex we cover. For surveys nearby, see our Chelmsford page.
All of CM22 is within our area for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. That includes homes and businesses on Patmore Fields and Vicarage Lane. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Quendon (1 mile north), Ugley Green (1 mile south-east), Elsenham (2 miles south-east), Henham (2 miles east) and Widdington (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Harlow (12 miles south), Saffron Walden (6 miles north), Great Dunmow (8 miles south-east), Great Notley (15 miles east), Bocking (15 miles east) and Newhall (12 miles south).

Nearby you’ll also find Herts and Essex Hospital (5.1 miles south) and House On The Hill Toy Museum (2.3 miles south). Open spaces near Ugley include Aubrey Buxton Nature Reserve.
What affects the price in Ugley
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Roof area
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.
What to tell us when you contact us
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or email us, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
FAQs for Ugley
Will you come out to Ugley?
Yes, Ugley is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Ugley listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies.
Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.
When to book a survey in Ugley
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
Horham Hall lies about 4.6 miles east, so building around Ugley goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
Honest limits
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
The survey, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey typically takes between one and two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Somewhere as small as Ugley, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
