Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Watt's Cross

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Common reasons to book are standing water on a flat roof and moss and weeds taking hold up top, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.

Older buildings in small places like Watt's Cross may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Airspace, weather and Watt's Cross roofs

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

With Ightham Mote about 3 miles north-east, the area around Watt's Cross has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St John, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Hildenborough Church of England Primary School will know that big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Watt's Cross is about 3 miles north-west of Tonbridge, in Kent. Bookings from Watt's Cross are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Our area takes in places right across Kent. Our Maidstone page covers surveys nearby.

Watt's Cross questions

Is Watt's Cross within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Are there drone restrictions around Watt's Cross?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you look in the loft space?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Watt's Cross?

The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Watt's Cross

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • How big the roof is
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

What to let us know when you contact us

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • When you need the report by
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

When you are ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

How the survey works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like Watt's Cross needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Can I check my roof myself?

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate normally means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.
