Drone roof surveys in West Marden

About our drone roof survey in West Marden

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we will say so. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates on a high roof and outlets choked with leaves and silt, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as West Marden, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What we’re asked to look at in West Marden

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You cannot see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof

Anyone responsible for a site like Compton and Up Marden CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • What follow-up you get after the report

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys in West Marden: local notes

Historic houses such as Uppark, about 2.6 miles north, show how far back building in the area around West Marden goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Why act early in West Marden

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. For an older or listed building in a place like West Marden, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Honest limits

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, it usually takes about one to two hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older rural homes like those around West Marden can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Advice

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

FAQs for West Marden

Can you fly a drone over a roof in West Marden?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Will you come out to West Marden?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

How long is the visit?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. The written report follows by email.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when booking.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you as you book.
