Drone roof survey in Forestside
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. Typical surveys look at debris building up in hidden gutters and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
Somewhere as small as Forestside, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
What we look at

Drones, thermal imaging and Forestside roofs
Forestside is within about 5 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Uppark, about 3.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Forestside. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Forestside is about 4 miles east of Horndean, in Hampshire. Forestside gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. For surveys nearby, see our Portsmouth page.
Every address in PO9 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Streets in the area include Lodge Lane and Forestside, all of which we cover. If you’re just outside Forestside, we cover West Marden (1 mile north-east), Chalton (3 miles north-west), Blendworth (3 miles west), Buriton (5 miles north) and Nursted (5 miles north). Further out, we also cover Gosport (13 miles south-west), Havant (5 miles south-west), Fareham (13 miles west), Horndean (4 miles west), Waterlooville (6 miles west) and Petersfield (7 miles north).
Landmarks near Forestside
Typical jobs here are in homes near Stansted Park, among other places. Forestside’s nearest station is Rowlands Castle station, about 2.2 miles south-west of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Clanfield Earthwork (4 miles north-west) and Havant War Memorial Hospital (5 miles south-west). The countryside around Forestside includes Compton Down and Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve.
What we’re asked to look at in Forestside
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Christ Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Questions to ask before booking
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Their report turnaround times
- What experience they bring
- Are they insured for the work?
Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Tell us the exact address when booking
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
The survey, step by step
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Somewhere like Forestside needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Related advice
Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Forestside
Is Forestside within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Forestside?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
High wind or heavy rain stops a flight. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If it’s unsuitable, we will agree another date or inspect by other means.
What does the report include?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
Are you registered with the CAA?
Yes, we are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.
Leave it or get it looked at?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Around Forestside, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.
