About our drone roof survey in Westenhanger
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Typical surveys look at flashings that have come away and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots, across tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.
Villages like Westenhanger often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we can’t see
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
How it works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Westenhanger frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Leave it or get it looked at?
It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. Our report shows the condition of each area, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. For an older or listed building in a place like Westenhanger, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Westenhanger: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Westenhanger?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you cover smaller places like Westenhanger?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How experienced are you?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up, as far as the flight allows.
Flying and imaging in Westenhanger
Westenhanger lies within about 3 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Take an older house close to All Saints Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. With Westenhanger Castle about 0.3 miles north-west, the area around Westenhanger has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
