Electronic leak detection for homes and businesses in Isle of Dogs
Our ELD report shows where each breach was found with photos. It tells your roofer exactly where to repair rather than guessing. Repair costs are not part of the report, so your roofer prices the work. Testing again after repairs can confirm the breaches have been dealt with if the build-up allows. You get a written report with photographs. If you’ve noticed patched roofs that still leak and punctures from foot traffic or tools, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Water getting through a flat roof in London can travel under the covering and appear some way from the hole. Upstands against parapets, outlets and the edge where flat meets pitched are common entry points. In a block or conversion in Isle of Dogs, the flat roof is often a shared part of the building.
If any part of the flat roof membrane couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Keep a note of leaks after rain
- Do not let outlets block
- Avoid repeated repairs without finding the cause
- Share any drawings of the roof
If anything in the report isn’t clear, ask us. We can talk you through the findings.
Ask trades working on the roof to protect the membrane when fitting equipment. Check the roof after they’ve finished.
Flat and commercial roofs around Isle of Dogs
Historic houses like Queen's House, about 0.8 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Isle of Dogs goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Isle of Dogs has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, finding the cause of a flat roof leak quickly keeps rooms in use.
Landlords with a home close to Greenwich station may find that flat roofs on let property tend to be checked only when they fail, which is the costly way round. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicholas, the flat roofs on later extensions tend to wear out long before the main roof. Shop and office owners around Surrey Quays Shopping Centre may find that outlets and upstands on commercial flat roofs are the places to check before trouble starts.

FAQs for Isle of Dogs
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Isle of Dogs?
Sometimes, yes. If Isle of Dogs has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.
Do you cover commercial flat roofs around Isle of Dogs?
Yes, commercial flat roofs are part of what we cover. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for the building, and roof access is agreed with you ahead of the visit.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
How does ELD work?
ELD passes a small electrical current across the roof to locate holes in the membrane. The current only gets through where the membrane is breached so we can pinpoint it.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.
How much does electronic leak detection cost?
We quote electronic leak detection for each roof, as the method and time depend on the roof. The price depends on the roof’s size and build-up. For a quote, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How the survey works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take a length of time set by the size of the roof and how it’s built, which we’ll explain when we quote. From the street, a London terrace normally shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Isle of Dogs we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.
- First, we confirm which roof areas are included.
- The surface is prepared for the chosen method.
- Testing runs across the agreed area.
- Each breach found is located and recorded.
- You receive the results to pass to your roofer.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Arrange a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
What a survey costs
To price your survey, we check:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Every price we give includes VAT. Electronic leak detection is quoted for your roof, because the method depends on the roof. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- What made you get in touch
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
