Flat roof survey in Catisfield, Hampshire
Flat roof surveys for homes and businesses in Catisfield. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Damaged trims at the roof edge
- Failed upstands where the roof meets a wall
- Standing water left after rain
What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
About our flat roof survey in Catisfield
Ponding is often the first sign that something on a flat roof isn’t right. It can point to poor falls, a blocked outlet or a deck that is deflecting. We record where water sits, check the outlets and look for dips that suggest deflection. Where the deck may be a structural issue, our report says a structural engineer should look at it. Common reasons to book are loose or cracked edge trims and gaps at upstands and abutments, on mastic asphalt, GRP fibreglass and felt flat roofs.
Around Catisfield, many homes have a garden room, garage or outbuilding with a flat roof. They’re rarely looked at until something gets wet. It’s worth mentioning them when booking, so the visit can include them, along with the main flat roof. Felt, rubber and GRP coverings on garages and outbuildings age in just the same way as the main roof’s.
Where we can’t see part of the flat roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

For landlords and managing agents
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run on any day of the week, which can make access easier.
What a flat roof survey does not cover
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- A structural engineer’s assessment of the deck
- A fixed date for when the roof will need replacing
- Fragile surfaces, which we don’t walk on
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- EPDM rubber
- Felt flat roofs
- GRP fibreglass
- Upstands and outlets
- Single-ply membranes
- Mastic asphalt
The survey, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for an extension, garage or dormer roof, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial flat roof. In a smaller place like Catisfield, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We agree the roof to be surveyed, its use and any leaks you know about.
- We check the roof from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- The covering is checked for wear, splits, blisters and standing water.
- We photograph and record the outlets, upstands, trims and rooflights.
- A written report with photos and recommendations is emailed to you.
How to prepare
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Let us know about parking near the property
Getting a price
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.
Advice
FAQs for Catisfield
How do I find out if my home in Catisfield is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you cover smaller places like Catisfield?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
How many years has my flat roof got left?
We do not give a fixed number of years, because it depends on upkeep, weather and how the roof was laid. We describe the condition and say which work is urgent and which can wait.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.
How much does a flat roof survey cost in Catisfield?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.
Local flat roofs in Catisfield
Catisfield is within about 2 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Coastal wind works at the edges of flat roofs, and salt air wears metal trims and fixings. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
If you let a flat or house near Fareham station, flat roofs over rear additions and dormers in rented property are worth checking between tenancies. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Catisfield means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For businesses in and around places such as Fareham Shopping Centre, the flat roofs over shops and commercial units are worth checking before a leak, not after.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Flat roofs cannot normally be seen from the street, so they’re often overlooked. Many owners only find out a roof is worn out when water comes through. A survey every few years stops that from catching you out. In a smaller place like Catisfield, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing doesn’t stay loose for long. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Useful tips for Catisfield property owners
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Have the roof looked at again after a severe storm
- Watch the ceilings below the flat roof for stains
- Keep outlets clear of leaves and moss
- Check from a window for ponding after heavy rain
Questions about the findings are always welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Get splits, lifted seams and loose trims seen to while they’re small. Prompt repairs tend to add years to a flat roof.
