Common questions in Ashampstead Green
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Goring & Streatley station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ashampstead Green?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
When is the best time for a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Booking before autumn and winter gives you time to plan though problems often show up after heavy rain.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
How long does a gutter survey take?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Gutter survey in Ashampstead Green
Leaves, moss and silt are the usual reasons gutters block. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. Photos show each problem clearly. It’s an easy job to put off but it rarely improves. Common reasons to book are overflowing eaves gutters and water backing up from a hidden gutter, on downpipes, parapet and box gutters and fascias and soffits.
In a village or hamlet like Ashampstead Green, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it’s typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Gutter surveys in Ashampstead Green: local notes
The wider area around Ashampstead Green has a long history of building, with Basildon Park about 2.9 miles east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Clement, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

What we’re asked to look at in Ashampstead Green
Falling leaves are the most common cause of blocked gutters. Every autumn, trees fill gutters with leaves, twigs and seeds, and they collect at the outlets. Once an outlet is choked, the gutter fills and overflows.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Joints that drip after rain
- Cracked or loose downpipes
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Gutters full of debris and silt
If you own a rental within reach of Goring & Streatley station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Will the report include photos?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Are they insured for the work?
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- The inside of buried drains
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Ashampstead Green
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
What we look for on each type of roof
Fascias and soffits
Overflowing water stains soffits and rots timber. They’re looked at as part of the survey.
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Older plastic gutters can turn brittle and crack. We check joints, brackets and the line of each run.
Prices for gutter surveys in Ashampstead Green
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
What to tell us when you contact us
What helps most when you contact us:
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- What made you get in touch
- Where the property is, with the postcode
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.
The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In a hamlet or village like Ashampstead Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets in another room
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
