Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Brambridge

Your gutters take the rain from the roof and lead it away from the walls. When they block, leak or lose their fall, the water goes where it shouldn’t, frequently down the brickwork or into the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, from eaves gutters and valleys to outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a report with photographs. Typical surveys look at gutters overflowing in heavy rain and choked outlets or hopper heads, on parapet and box gutters, eaves gutters and valley gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Brambridge, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.

What you get is a clear record of the gutter on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

What a gutter survey does not cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:

  • Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
  • The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
  • Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Fascias and soffits
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Downpipes
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Valley gutters
  • Eaves gutters

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Do not climb a ladder to look in the gutters
  • Check for spilling water in a downpour
  • Have overhanging branches cut back
  • Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall

How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. It is sent to you by email once it’s done.

Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. Left alone, they typically grow and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.

Common questions in Brambridge

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Shawford station?

Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.

Do you cover smaller places like Brambridge?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Will the survey check for asbestos?

No. We do not test for asbestos. If rainwater goods or soffits look like they could contain asbestos, we note it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?

Whenever suits you. If you’ve already seen a gutter overflowing, it’s best not to wait, because the walls take the water.

Do you survey at weekends?

Yes. Surveys are carried out on any day of the week. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to arrange a day.

How experienced are you?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Common roof problems in Brambridge

Falling leaves are the most common cause of blocked gutters. Every autumn, trees fill gutters with leaves, twigs and seeds, and they collect at the outlets. A choked outlet soon means a full, overflowing gutter.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Gutters that have fallen out of line
  • Cracked or loose downpipes
  • Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
  • Leaves and moss blocking gutters

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Colden Common Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What exactly goes into their report

What to expect from a roof survey

Leave it or get it looked at?

Overflowing water soaks the walls under the gutter. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Finding the cause now typically keeps the fix smaller. Outbuildings and barns around Brambridge are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

The survey, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Rural addresses near Brambridge can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we agree the areas to focus on.
  2. Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
  3. Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Before the survey

  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Getting a price

We confirm the price for the job before booking, so you know where you stand. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Brambridge

Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Historic houses such as South Stoneham House, about 4.5 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around Brambridge goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

Landlords with a home close to Shawford station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Holy Trinity, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
