About our gutter survey in Chale Green
Eaves gutters at the front of a building are easy to spot, but many aren’t. Valley gutters between slopes, gutters behind parapet walls and box or secret gutters can send water indoors when they overflow. We inspect them as far as it’s safe to see them, from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. We survey parapet and box gutters, downpipes and fascias and soffits, and people most often book us about brackets that have dropped or snapped and gutters full of debris and silt.
In a small place like Chale Green, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What this survey can’t tell you
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
- What’s behind fascias and inside walls
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Outlets and hoppers
- Valley gutters
- Downpipes
- Eaves gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Parapet and box gutters
What we do, step by step
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Somewhere like Chale Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Find any records of previous roof work

Why it is worth a survey now in Chale Green
Small gutter faults rarely fix themselves. Every downpour adds to the damage on the walls, the fascias and sometimes the rooms inside. Getting it surveyed now shows what needs attention first. In a place like Chale Green, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Chale Green
Chale Green lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, while driving rain finds any gap. Historic houses such as Wolverton Manor, about 2.5 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Chale Green goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.
The streets around a church such as St. James' Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

Tips that help
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks
- Watch the gutters during heavy rain
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
For let and shared buildings, the report can go on file to help plan maintenance. The photos help when you explain the work to others.
Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. They tend to get worse and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.
For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Chale Green questions
Will you come out to Chale Green?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Chale Green listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
When is the best time for a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Booking before autumn and winter gives you time to plan, and a wet spell can show where gutters overflow.
Do you test soffits or gutters for asbestos?
No. We don’t test for asbestos. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check before any work.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
How soon will I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when you book.
