Thermal Roof Survey in Chale Green
Know where you stand with the roof before you spend money on it. We carry out thermal roof surveys in Chale Green.
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Chale Green
On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you cannot usually tell from the surface. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. We survey insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs, and people most often book us about areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and moisture around outlets and upstands.
Villages like Chale Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
To price your survey, we check:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Which survey package you book
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How big the roof is
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Chale Green
Once a leak has been fixed, people often ask whether the roof is still wet. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain when the conditions on the day are suitable.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
The streets around a church such as St. James' Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. The camera can help show damp around these junctions.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. That makes the survey more focused.
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
Chale Green questions
Is my home in Chale Green listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Chale Green within the area you cover?
Yes, Chale Green is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
How long does the survey take?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. The survey is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.

How it works
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a village or hamlet like Chale Green, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Getting ready for the survey
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
