Chatham Waterfront Gutter Survey
We take a careful look at the gutter at your property in Chatham Waterfront, with photographs and a written report.
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
Signs you need a gutter survey in Chatham Waterfront
Valley, parapet and box gutters are often lined with lead or a sheet material. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building, because there’s no outer edge for it to spill over. Lead linings can also be stolen.
Problems we come across often include:
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
- Leaking or loose downpipes
Trees in and around The Paddock shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Gutter survey in Chatham Waterfront
We check the rainwater system above ground level: gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows. It is not a CCTV drain survey and we cannot see inside buried drains. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, we will say so in the report, so you can get the drains checked separately. Problems above ground, from split hoppers to leaking downpipes, are photographed and noted. If you’re worried about gutters overflowing in heavy rain and gutters packed with leaves or moss, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a smaller place like Chatham Waterfront, homes range from older cottages to bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. Chimneys, valleys and gutters on older homes often need the most attention. The fixings under an older roof often fail before good slates or tiles do.
The report records the gutter as we found it on the day. It is useful right away, and a good reference for later.

What else we do in Chatham Waterfront
Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
FAQs for Chatham Waterfront
Will you come out to Chatham Waterfront?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Chatham Waterfront?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Ridges, verges, flashings and fixings are where it usually shows, and Chatham Waterfront is within about 3 miles of the coast.
How do I book a survey in Chatham Waterfront?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Will you check the loft?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Could my damp wall be caused by the gutters?
Overflowing gutters often lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.
What happens on the day
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Homes around Chatham Waterfront often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.

Practical tips
You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Check from the ground or a window, not a ladder
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so you can arrange a drain survey. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. They tend to get worse and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.
Gutter surveys around Chatham Waterfront
Chatham Waterfront is within about 3 miles of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Divine, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. Restoration House, about 0.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Chatham Waterfront. If you own one of the older houses, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.
