Crow Green: your questions answered
Is Crow Green within the area you cover?
Yes, Crow Green is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I find out if my home in Crow Green is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How soon will I get the report?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know when you book.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
Is a CCTV drain survey included?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters to the bottom of the downpipes. If a drain below ground looks like the cause, the report says so.
Do you test soffits or gutters for asbestos?
No, that is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. We point out materials on older buildings that could contain asbestos so you can arrange that check.
What happens next?
You will get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Gutter survey in Crow Green: what you get
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Homes close to trees fill their gutters faster and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. The photos show you exactly what we found. It’s an easy job to put off but it rarely improves. We survey eaves gutters, outlets and hoppers and downpipes, and people most often book us about hoppers and outlets full of debris and water backing up from a hidden gutter.
In a village or hamlet like Crow Green, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it is typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
The report records the gutter as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How the survey works
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a hamlet or village like Crow Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Leave a clear route to the loft

What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods

Prices for gutter surveys in Crow Green
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- How big the roof is
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Gutter surveys in Crow Green: local notes
About 4.4 miles east lies Ingatestone Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Crow Green has been built on. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, alongside plenty of post-war and newer estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Living close to Weald Country Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Trinity Church, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. Landlords with a home close to Shenfield station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
Crow Green is about 2 miles north of Brentwood, in Essex. Crow Green gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a close look at whatever is safely visible, photos and a clear written report. Across Essex, we cover Crow Green. Chelmsford is in our area too.

Further out, we also cover Chelmsford (10 miles north-east), Basildon (9 miles south-east), Harlow (11 miles north-west), Canvey Island (15 miles south-east), Billericay (6 miles east) and Rayleigh (14 miles east).
Local landmarks in Crow Green
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Becket Keys Church of England School, Sawyers Hall College and Weald Country Park. The closest station to Crow Green is Shenfield station, about 2.1 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are Brentwood Community Hospital (1.9 miles south-east). For a walk, there is Thorndon Park.
Different roofs, different checks
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
A London butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter, and a blockage there can overflow inside. We check it where it is safe to see.
Aluminium and other metal gutters
On big buildings, one blocked outlet can affect a long run so outlets get close attention.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Small gutter faults rarely fix themselves. Each heavy rain puts more water where it shouldn’t be, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. A survey now tells you what needs doing and how urgent it is. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Every price we give includes VAT. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.

Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
- Look out for overflows when it pours
- Make sure downpipe clips are holding
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
Report times depend on the package you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We email it to you once it is done.
Watch your gutters from the ground or a window during heavy rain. Water spilling over the edge or out of a joint is a sign that something needs attention before damage builds up.
