Durford Wood Gutter Survey
Not sure what state the gutter is in? You can book a gutter survey in Durford Wood and across Hampshire.
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
Checking the roof from the ground
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Gutter survey in Durford Wood: what you get
Eaves gutters at the front of a building are easy to spot, but many aren’t. Valley gutters between slopes, gutters behind parapet walls and box or secret gutters can overflow inside the building when they block. We inspect them as far as it’s safe to see them, from the ground, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. We are often asked to look into hoppers and outlets full of debris and cracked or loose downpipes, on outlets and hoppers, parapet and box gutters and valley gutters.
Older buildings in small places like Durford Wood may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Different roofs, different checks
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Plastic rainwater systems are common on homes of many ages. Their joints can leak as the seals wear and brackets may drop under the weight of debris.
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Long metal gutter runs on larger buildings can hide blocked outlets so outlets get close attention.
Do you need a gutter survey in Durford Wood?
Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building as there is nowhere harmless for it to go. Lead is also a target for theft.
We’re often asked to look at:
- Soffits marked by water
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Gutters that have fallen out of line
If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

What a gutter survey looks like in Durford Wood
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.
Take a building like Liss Infant School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If you let a flat or house near Liss station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
How do I find out if my home in Durford Wood is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you survey underground drains?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground down to where the downpipes reach the ground. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.

Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
How it works
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Around Durford Wood, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, like damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
