Gutter survey in Farmoor
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If you are worried about dripping or leaking gutter joints and downpipes that are split or coming away, we can find out what’s behind it, on fascias and soffits, parapet and box gutters and outlets and hoppers alike.
Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
Where we can’t see part of the gutter, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Why act early in Farmoor
A dripping joint or sagging bracket will not get better on its own. Each heavy rain puts more water where it shouldn’t be, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. Getting it surveyed now shows what needs attention first. Outbuildings and barns around Farmoor are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.

Your questions about gutter surveys in Farmoor
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Farmoor?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is Farmoor within the area you cover?
Yes. Farmoor is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where applicable, the Premium Survey.
Do you look in the loft space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.
What’s in the report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
What we do, step by step
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Farmoor, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- A written report with photos and recommendations follows.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
Booking a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Gutter surveys in Farmoor: local notes
About 3.5 miles south lies Appleton Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Farmoor has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
For businesses in and around places like Westgate Shopping Centre, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. Landlords with a home close to Oxford station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

What affects the price in Farmoor
We confirm the price for your survey before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- How big the roof is
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.
What we need to know
What helps most when you contact us:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- What made you get in touch
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We will confirm the price before booking.
When to book a survey in Farmoor
Some gutters may be too small, or have too few downpipes, for the roof they serve. An extension or extra roof slope can add water to an existing gutter, and a heavy downpour shows up the problem.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Soffits marked by water
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
For an older house near a landmark like St Mary's Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.
Questions to ask before you book
- What the survey will not cover
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
