Frithend Gutter Survey
Independent gutter surveys in Frithend. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Gutters full of debris and silt
Why get it checked now?
Overflowing water soaks the walls under the gutter. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Finding the cause now typically keeps the fix smaller. In a small place like Frithend, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Why us?

- Drone and thermal imaging surveys available

Gutter survey in Frithend: what you get
This survey covers rainwater above ground: gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows. It is not a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, the report will say so, with a suggestion to book a separate drain survey. Anything we find above ground, such as a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. If you’re worried about dripping or leaking gutter joints and leaves and moss blocking gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.
Somewhere as small as Frithend, homes are frequently older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it is typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

The survey, step by step
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a village or hamlet like Frithend, the journey is planned beforehand: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Getting ready for the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

What we are asked to look at in Frithend
Leaves are behind most blocked gutters. Every autumn, trees fill gutters with leaves, twigs and seeds, and they collect at the outlets. A choked outlet soon means a full, overflowing gutter.
People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
Landlords with a home close to Bentley (Hampshire) station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.
What to check before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Is VAT included in the price?
Gutter surveys in Frithend: local notes
With Farnham Castle about 4.8 miles north-east, Frithend sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
For an older house near a landmark such as The Church Of The Good Shepherd, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.

Questions from Frithend
Is my home in Frithend listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
I let a flat near Bentley (Hampshire) station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the building.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
What we look for on each type of roof
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Joints and fixings are the weak points on metal gutters. We record any corrosion or leaks we see.
Cast iron gutters
Cast iron tends to fail at the joints and fixings. We note corrosion, cracks and leaking joints where they can be seen.
What we can’t see
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
- What’s behind fascias and inside walls
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
