Gutter surveys in Stud Green: local notes
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. About 2.7 miles east lies Dorney Court, a reminder of how long the area around Stud Green has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you own a rental within reach of Maidenhead station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Take a building like Holyport College: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Stud Green
We carry out gutter surveys in Stud Green as part of our cover across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows and from the roof space. A visit usually takes an hour or two for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. If you’ve noticed dripping or leaking gutter joints and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Stud Green, homes are frequently older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

About gutter survey
Your questions about gutter surveys in Stud Green
Is my home in Stud Green listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you cover smaller places like Stud Green?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?
Overflowing gutters frequently lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the evidence points elsewhere, we will say so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
How much is a gutter survey?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email for a price.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
What do I do with the report?
You will receive the report by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
How long does a gutter survey take?
It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. We will give you an idea when booking.
Tips from our surveys
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Check from ground level or a window, not a ladder
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
Questions about the report are welcome. With the Standard Survey there’s a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey comes with an in-person one.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They block in the same way as the gutters you can see but you cannot check them from the street, so ask for them to be included when gutters are cleared.
What we are asked to look at in Stud Green
Some gutters may be too small, or have too few downpipes, for the roof they serve. An extension or extra roof slope can add water to an existing gutter and the weakness shows in a heavy downpour.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
Living close to Ockwells Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.
What to check before booking
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- What exactly goes into their report
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether the price includes VAT
How the survey works
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Around Stud Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
Book a survey
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Advice
What a gutter survey does not cover
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Pipes below ground level
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we check
- Parapet and box gutters
- Outlets and hoppers
- Fascias and soffits
- Downpipes
- Valley gutters
- Eaves gutters
Prices for gutter surveys in Stud Green
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- House, block, shop or office
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or email us and give us a few details about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
