Thermal imaging roof survey in Stud Green, Windsor and Maidenhead
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Stud Green. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Cold areas below the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
What we are asked to look at in Stud Green
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
We’re often asked to look at:
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
If you look after a building like Holyport College, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Thermal roof survey in Stud Green
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey flat roofs, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and damp that repairs haven’t cured.
Older buildings in small places like Stud Green may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.
Useful tips for Stud Green property owners
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Photograph damp patches with the date
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof, when the conditions are suitable.
What this survey can’t tell you
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- The condition of timbers we cannot see
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- A formal energy assessment

Checking the roof from the ground
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Common questions in Stud Green
Do you cover smaller places like Stud Green?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Stud Green?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Stud Green is about 3 miles from White Waltham Airfield, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take between one and two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The written report follows by email.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
The camera doesn’t see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, and moisture readings are used to check it.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
The survey, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Stud Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets in another room
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Drones, thermal imaging and Stud Green roofs
White Waltham Airfield is about 3 miles from Stud Green. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Historic houses like Dorney Court, about 2.7 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Stud Green goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
