Gutter survey in Upper Ifield

We carry out gutter surveys in Upper Ifield as part of our cover across London and South East England. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, from the ground, from windows and from the loft space. Time on site usually takes about one to two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. We survey fascias and soffits, outlets and hoppers and downpipes, and common reasons people get in touch are water backing up from a hidden gutter and overflowing eaves gutters.

Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.

The report records the gutter as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Questions from Upper Ifield

Do you cover smaller places like Upper Ifield?

Yes, Upper Ifield is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Can a landlord with a rental near Higham station book a roof survey?

Yes, landlords and letting agents book with us as well as owners. You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

Is a CCTV drain survey included?

No, we don’t carry out CCTV drain surveys. The survey covers gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and note any sign that the drains need checking.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.

What happens after the survey?

You will get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

When you need someone else

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • Hidden sections we can’t view safely
  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
  • The inside of a downpipe along its whole length

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Downpipes
  • Valley gutters
  • Eaves gutters

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older rural homes like those around Upper Ifield can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First, we agree the areas to focus on.
  2. We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
  3. We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.

Tips that help

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Look for downpipes coming loose
  • Book gutter clearing once a year, more frequently near trees
  • Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it
  • Watch for green marks down the brickwork

Report times depend on the package you choose: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you as soon as it’s ready.

Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back by someone who can do it safely. Less debris means fewer blocked outlets.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Upper Ifield

Overflowing gutters in a downpour are a common reason to book. Others spot damp patches, ceiling stains or green marks on the walls. The survey helps pin down the source before it causes more harm.

We are often asked to look at:

  • Soffits marked by water
  • Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
  • Gutters packed with leaves or moss
  • Brackets that have dropped or snapped

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Questions to ask before booking

  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What insurance they carry
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What’s in a roof survey

Gutter surveys around Upper Ifield

Upper Ifield is within about 3 miles of the coast, so there is more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.

Living close to Shorne Woods Country Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. Cobham College lies about 1.9 miles south-west, so building around Upper Ifield goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is.

Upper Ifield is about 2 miles south-east of Gravesend, in Kent. If you are in Upper Ifield, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Across Kent, we cover Upper Ifield. There’s also a page for Maidstone.
