Gutter survey in Wineham, West Sussex
Not sure what state the gutter is in? We carry out gutter surveys in Wineham and across West Sussex.
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
Different roofs, different checks
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
On plastic systems, slipped joints are one of the most common faults. The report notes every one we spot.
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
We check the lining, the joints and the outlets as far as they can safely be seen. Missing lead is something we check for too.
Gutter survey in Wineham
We look at the rainwater system above ground level, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It isn’t a CCTV drain survey and we cannot see inside buried drains. If the problem looks like a blocked or broken drain below ground, we will say so in the report, so you can get the drains checked separately. Anything we find above ground, such as a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. If you’re worried about leaks at the gutter joints and gutters packed with leaves or moss, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on eaves gutters, outlets and hoppers and parapet and box gutters alike.
Some older homes in villages like Wineham are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
Where we cannot see part of the gutter, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- The inside of buried drains
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Wineham
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Local roofs in Wineham
About 4.9 miles north-east lies Ockenden Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Wineham has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near The Parish Church of St Peter, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Questions from Wineham
Do you carry out roof surveys in Wineham?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Wineham is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is Wineham within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes. These gutters often cause leaks indoors when they block so we pay close attention to them. Some may only be partly visible, and we will note that in the report.
Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?
Yes, weekend visits are possible as well as weekdays. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form to arrange it.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
How quickly is the report sent?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Rural addresses near Wineham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
Arrange a survey
If you are buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Height and safe access
- Which survey package you book
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
What we need to know
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
