Questions from Wootton

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near New Milton station?

Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Will you come out to Wootton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

What do I do with the report?

You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Can you tell me if my old gutters contain asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos testing. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Could my damp wall be caused by the gutters?

The survey looks at whether rainwater is spilling onto the wall, through overflows, drips or damaged downpipes. We cannot see inside walls, so we report on what’s visible.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to.

How much is a gutter survey?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The price depends on the size of the building and how easy the gutters are to see. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

About our gutter survey in Wootton

We carry out gutter surveys in Wootton as part of our cover across London and the South East. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, from the ground, from windows and from the loft space. A visit usually takes an hour or two for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The written report follows, with photos and recommendations. If you are worried about brackets that have dropped or snapped and choked outlets or hopper heads, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In a village or hamlet like Wootton, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.

What you get is a clear record of the gutter on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

What a gutter survey does not cover

It is useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:

  • Hidden sections we cannot view safely
  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
  • The inside of buried drains

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Valley gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Downpipes
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Eaves gutters

Leave it or get it looked at?

When a valley or parapet gutter blocks, the water has nowhere safe to go. It can overflow into the building normally during the worst downpours. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. Outbuildings and barns around Wootton are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

How it works

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Somewhere like Wootton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
  2. We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
  3. Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
  4. The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
  5. You receive a report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

How we price gutter surveys

We confirm the price for your roof before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Roof area
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.

Booking your survey

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The property’s address and postcode

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or email us and give us some details about the property and we will point you to the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
  • Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it
  • Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
  • Check downpipe clips are holding

Report times depend on the package you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is sent to you by email as soon as it’s ready.

Have your gutters cleared at least once a year or more often near trees. The best time is usually after the leaves have dropped. Clean gutters can do their job.

Wootton homes and their roofs

Wootton is within about 4 miles of the coast, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.

Historic houses such as Avon Tyrrell House, about 3.2 miles west, show how far back building around Wootton goes. Older roofs nearby frequently mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is. Take an older house close to St John: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Landlords with a home close to New Milton station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
